Introduction
The development goal of the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) is to become a pro-industry university of science and technology. To comply with and implement the development goal of NKUST, the research and development goal of this department has been defined as “Research and Development of Industrial Technology with 30% forward-looking vision and 70% practical application.” The human and physical resources devoted to research in this department are divided into three major groups: electronics, communications, and information.
Electronics Group
(Optoelectronics, Semiconductor & IC Design)
In recent years, the government has actively promoted the IC industry and the development of thin-film transistor related devices. To meet the demand for technology development and expertise, the following areas are selected as our research focus:
- Electrical properties of materials used in electronic components.
- Electrical properties of the electronic components themselves.
- Research on photoelectric display components.
- Electronic circuits, systems, and analog IC design.
Communication & System Group
With 5G, IoT, AI, and AR/VR subverting past models, the combination of ICT and biomedical technology has become a star industry. To meet this demand, the following areas are selected as our research focus:
- Design of smart systems.
- Systems and applications of IoT.
- Theory and practice of medical engineering.
- Wireless communication technology.
- Design of antenna and microwave engineering.
- Optical fiber communication technology.
- Signal processing technology.
- New-generation mobile communication and security technology.
Computer Science & Digital IC Design Group
Taiwan’s information industry occupies an important position in the world market. Long-term fostering and training in software design is essential. The following areas are selected as our research focus:
- Research on the design of VLSI (very large-scale integration).
- Research on biomedical engineering and bioinformatics.
- Research on multimedia signal processing and AI systems.
- Research on e-commerce and database management systems.
